[Holmskioldia sanguinea]

 

ഹിമാലയത്തിൽ ജന്മദേശമുള്ള (ഇന്ത്യ മുതൽ മ്യാന്മർ വരെ), എന്നാൽ നമ്മുടെ ഉദ്യാനങ്ങളിൽ ഒക്കെ കാണുന്ന ഭംഗിയേറിയ ഒരു ചെടിയാണിത്.പടർന്നു കേറുന്ന സ്വഭാവമുള്ള ഈ ചെടിയുടെ ചുവന്ന പൂക്കളിലെ വിദളങ്ങൾക്ക് (sepals) ഒരു സോസറിൻറെ ആകൃതിയാണ്. അതിന്റെ മുകളിലായി ഒരു കപ്പ് വച്ച പോലെയാണ് കുഴലാകൃതിയുള്ള ദളങ്ങൾ (petals).

വിദളങ്ങൾക്കു ചൈനക്കാർ ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്ന തൊപ്പിയുടെ ആകൃതിയുള്ളതിനാൽ ചൈനീസ് തൊപ്പി എന്നും ഇതിനെ വിളിക്കുന്നുണ്ട്.

1.Holmskioldia Sanguinea, is a straggling shrub of the mint family,Lamiaceae (formerly Verbenaceae) Which is native to the Himalayas (India,Pakistan,Nepal,Bhutan,Bangladesh,Myanmar) but widely cultivated as an ornamental plant.

2.It is commonly called the Cup-and-saucer-plant,chinese hat plant, or Mandarin’s hat.(Mandarin=Chineselanguage)

3.What we see as the cup is the fused tubular petal and the round saucer below(or the hat) is the pettalloid sepal.

4.It can be propagated by cuttings, air layering, or seeds
