BRAIN CACTUS-Mammillaria elongata

 

    

 

Brain Cactus എന്ന പേരിൽ അറിയപ്പെടുന്ന ഈ കള്ളിമുൾച്ചെടി മെക്സിക്കോയിൽ വളരുന്ന Mammillaria elongata എന്ന സസ്യത്തിൻറെ cristata എന്ന ഇനമാണ്. മറ്റു മൂന്നു ഇനങ്ങൾ കൂടി ഉണ്ട് കേട്ടോ. പക്ഷേ ഇതിനു മാത്രമേ തലച്ചോറിൻറെ രൂപമുള്ളൂ, അതിനാൽ തന്നെ നല്ല മാർക്കറ്റ് ആണ്.

                                                       

                                                        

1)   Mammillaria elongata,the gold lace cactus or lady finger cactus, is a plant in the family cactaceae,native to central mexico.

2)   It consists of densely packed clusters of elongated oval stems,covered in harmless ( although very sharp) yellow or brown spines,and in spring producing white or yellow flowers.

 

                         

3)   It is among the commonest and most variable of its genusin nature,and is a popular subject for cultivation.

4)   It has gained the royal hortcultural society’s award of garden merit.

5)   There four cultivation varieties viz.”Golden Stars”,”Copper King”,”Cristata” and “Julio”,out of which Cristata is having the shape of a brain and hence popularly known as brain cactus.
