BALLOON PLANT  (Gomphocarpus physocarpus)

  

 

ദക്ഷിണ-കിഴക്കൻ ആഫ്രിക്ക ജന്മദേശം ആയുള്ള ഈ മനോഹര സസ്യം ഇന്ന് നമ്മുടെ നാട്ടിലും സുപരിചിതമാണ്. കൂടുതലും ഹൈറേഞ്ചുകളിലാണ് കാണപ്പെടുന്നത്.

 

കോളാമ്പിപ്പൂവിന്റെയും, ശവംനാറിയുടെയും,  അപ്പൂപ്പൻതാടിയുടെയും ഒക്കെ കുടുംബക്കാരിയായ ഈ സസ്യത്തിന്റെ കായ്കളാണ് ഇങ്ങനെ കാറ്റ് നിറഞ്ഞ് രോമാവൃതമായ ബലൂൺ പോലെ ആയിത്തീരുന്നത്. വിത്തുകൾ അപ്പൂപ്പൻ താടി പോലെ തന്നെയാണ്.

 

 

1.Gomphocarpus physocarpus is a milkweed shrub, having latex, belonging to the family Apocynaceae.                    

2.Is native to southeast Africa, but it has been widely naturalized and used as an ornamental.

3.It is found here mainly in the high range gardens.

4.The flower small and white, about  1cm across.

5.The inflated balloon shaped structure is the fruit (Follicle) Which is pale green, and is covered  with rough hairs
